'There is nothing unusual about that...'
On a Saturday afternoon, on the grounds of a very nice art gallery in the middle of New South Wales Wine Region, we found a rather large uninhabited spot of grass. It was manicured, soft and had very little contact with anything heavier that a bird, until we arrived.
'Let's soak up the sun.' My friend said. 'When was the last time you connected with nature, when did you last ground yourself?'
And she was correct.
We are so busy living on the treadmill of life, that its hard to slow down to a reasonable speed and enjoy the earth beneath us. I loved the fact that after wandering around the art gallery, we simply kept walking. It was a picturesque scene from Hanging Rock, without the turn of the century eeriness and if anyone did see us, they chose not to comment. Maybe they wished to do the same. Perhaps others have done so also.
My friend works with children and she often comments on how she encourages 'nature' play. Fingertips grazing the rocky face, palms flat against a spotted gum tree, starfishes on a grassy knoll. For what seemed liked hours, we listened to the wind and watched the clouds float by.
It was what I needed.
Compartmentalising during the week is hard, being able to switch off without feeling guilty, I found that afternoon to be even harder. But it was lovely.
