Praise for the list.
I love writing lists. Seems like so many others do as well. There are Pinterest boards dedicated to correct list writing. Youtube videos demonstrating the 'write' way to write a list. Some would say that it's too rigid, while others claim that life without a list would be chaos.
But why write about a list? I love that phrase 'always ask someone who is the busiest to complete a task,' because I bet you, it would be on their list, and as an observation, there are those who swear by a list, and then there are those who don't. The dopamine released when one has a sense of achievement is the motivating factor. It's clinically proven that ticking off your to-do list can make you happy!
Think about how you document your day? If I didn't have a list of things to do, my daytime job would fall apart. Writing a list of to-do for me is a job requirement, if I didnt follow a pattern of a well-to-do list, many balls would be bouncing off the walls and my lack of control would send me in a spin – yes, I know what you are thinking...OCD...I get it. Still, if it weren't for my lists, I would safely say that my family unit would fall through the cracks. After all, it's on my to-do list to purchase the groceries, pay the utilities and book the necessary social activities.
My lists were quite varied in my earlier years, but I've narrowed it down to fine art, quite specific. Actually, a little too specific if I look at my list for today on the weekend: (because a list never sleeps)
Vacuum
Write blog
Post on Insta
Book accommodation (for a wedding 12 months away!)
A quick google search, and instantly I have the choice of a plethora of lists to choose from. It seems that there is a list for just about everything.
Top 5 richest people
Top 10 holiday destinations
Top 25 TED Talks
Top 50 songs of 2021
Top 100 accounting firms in Sydney (What, only?)
Admittedly I have post-it note lists, lists in my work diary and lists in my journal.
And when I'm feeling just a little lost in the world, I look at my happy list, the list that I'm grateful for, the list of my really creative things to do, the future holiday list, the list that even outlines these blog posts. I even recycle envelopes received in the mail to write my lists. I like to subscribe to the notion: don't refuse to reuse.
My lists allow me to structure my day, feed my curiosity, reach out to people (yes, to contact you, it is on my list) and Get. Things. Done. My employer is grateful as I am well prepared, my immediate societal community is happy as I have my preverbal together, and my family are so glad as they get to eat!
Praise for the list.
