I've noticed lately, many of my FB friends have been posting where they ‘should be, where they wanted to be’, but alas, can’t.

As with me.

If all went to plan, today July 3rd we should have disembarked the Emirates flight EK 415 into Budapest. We would have been met by family, excited glees between the cousins. Hugs kisses; let’s get in the car quickly. We wouldn’t have realised the speedy trip from the airport, as we non-stop chat in the car. The weather would have been a balmy 35 degrees. We would have driven into the driveway and more hugs and kisses from extended family members and friends who had been waiting for our return. The last we met would have been three years ago.

‘Go unpack, change and let’s eat.’

My favourite meal would have been prepared and ready to serve on the terrace. The table would have been laden with food and drink that reminisce an ancient past. I would have beamed at my family, all together, smiles all around. I would have tried to guess who would be the first to see the bottom of the bottle, most probably me.

Sweets, coffee, tea and pats to a full stomach. The chitty chatter would continue well into the evening until jetlag would take hold. We would have tried but our sleepy eyes would have forced us to slumber.

The next morning, we would have woken early, in the car and drive to one of my favourite places in the world, the blue Hungarian Sea.

We would have been met by more friends and acquaintances who remember us as travellers from the other side of the world.

We would have been organising my birthday party, a milestone. For the next ten days all I would have thought about, was when I wanted to bask in the sun or when we wanted to swim in the clear water. And eat and drink and laugh.
