A story on the beach
Taking time out from the hectic Christmas season...yes, I've had my fair share of sauerkraut, turkey and pavlova to last a few more months, we head off to the beach in search of some relaxing fine time. Have you ever just sat and listened to those around you? This day I did.To my left a family of three generations, propped up by the beach chairs, fancy umbrella and the very fancy English accent. But what made me smile, was the beautiful banter amongst them, I assumed this particular family came together for the christmas period after a long separation. 'Love this, love you and love that' were snippets of dialogue. this little area radiated pure happiness.Behind me, were a group of younger tourists, the talk of flying into the country, the very first time you see our beautiful harbour as the British Airline flight 01 lands into Kingsford Smith at 06:05, the meeting ritual on our famous Bondi beach are memories and moments that I don't think will leave their subconscious ever.To my right, the 'newbies.' New Baby, new life equals no sleep. I felt their pain, as I reminisced when we were also desperate to leave the house with 3 month old in tow. Up goes the beach umbrella, out comes the pram, the bottles, the sun hat, the cancer council sun sun tent, the towel, the dummy. Unfortunately no Camilla Kaftan could cover up the skin that didn't quite bounce back, but I saw the yearning in her eye. She was ready for a swim and to swim alone, to be at one with the sea (I like to say quite often.) After handing over the baby to ready-and-waiting-dad, she bounced off down the sand. I watched her run, no, bolt towards the water (which coincidently today was a little bit fresh) and dive head first under a wave. I knew exactly how she felt, Ive been there myself.Im making a conscious decision to just stand a listen a little bit closer from now on. Taking time out also means taking time out from all the yapping and distractions in life. Today I felt the sand on my skin and the salt water on my face, and looked a little into a strangers life. I love that we all have s tory to tell, just have to listen every now and then...#beach #australian beach #story #christmas stories
